If you come down to the woods today......
Last September I had the unique and special experience of both attending and working at an incredible wedding in the heart of the Kent countryside.
When one of my best friends asked me to create the flowers for her wedding I knew immediately it would be such a special job. Laura had told me a few details of her plans and knowing what a creative and caring soul she is I knew she would be planning a wedding that not only was her dream day but also an incredible experience for her guests.
The wedding took place in the incredible woodlands of Longton Wood Wedding venue in Kent. Words cannot explain what a magical place this is, as I listened to the wild life and watched all the lights twinkling whilst I set up the evening before I just knew this would be a day to remember. The woodlands itself is split into an aisle area where the ceremony took place, a large outdoor area with a fire pit for general chatting and merrymaking and a marquee for the dance floor and wedding breakfast to take place (and a safety net if the weather should cause you some problems). There is also a separate field where our yurts (yes we camped in yurts!) are erected so you can slink off back to your tent when you’ve had one too many proseccos!
Laura and I worked closely together to create her florals. We created big bushy garlands to hold back flowing curtains on the archway in front of the aisle where they exchanged vows. We also created a large hanging hoop above the top table (one of my fave arrangements to make) with lots of hanging delphiniums, stocks and achielliea raining down above the happy couple. The archway into the woodlands was also adorned with a plethora of beautiful flowers. Clematis, roses and nigella climbed and weaved across the arch and moss bases all suggested the flowers had been growing there all along. However it was Laura’s bouquet which was the most special arrangement of the day to create. There is something incredibly personal about creating a bridal bouquet for someone you know and love and I truly poured my heart into it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so nervous as I did that morning handing it over to the blushing bride!
After the ceremony (where guests were given beers and gin and tonics to sip during the ceremony – how cool!) we were given a chance to explore the grounds. Laura had done such an amazing job with the styling (seriously someone persuade that girl to set up a styling business!) Persian-style rugs, jars of sweets, a megaphone and a polaroid station were just a few of the amazing touches she had placed around the venue to contribute to the overall look.
After a wedding breakfast of pizza and wine (another win!) and some hilarious and lovely speeches the fab xxxx band came on and we all busted some extremely questionable moves well into the night before being served from the fish and chip van, an excellent move to help soak up that extra alcohol and definitely the reason I could still manage to de-rig the next day!
It’s such a lovely and unique experience to help create flowers for a wedding and also experience all the hard work the couple of have put into their day. Dave and Laura both looked absolutely beautiful as did all of the wedding party. Such a special day with many incredible suppliers working together. Thanks so much for entrusting me with your flowers and inviting us to such a beautiful wedding Laura and Dave!!!
